Flavio Roddolo - Piedmont
Flavio Roddolo is one of the truly legendary winemakers in the Monforte part of Barolo, in the Piedmont region. This craftsman has been making wine for 40 years - something that will definitely show when you drink his wines.
Flavio has approx. 6 hectares planted on the Bricco Appiani slope, where he operates with a mix of organic and biodynamic methods. No chemicals or pesticides have been used in the fields with Flavio at the helm.
He works with traditional grapes for the region such as Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, but also with a little Cabernet Sauvignon.
In the cellar, fermentation takes place spontaneously with the use of wild yeast. He uses no new oak and the wine is neither clarified nor filtered before bottling.
Flavio is a traditionalist. His Barolo undergoes long maceration and is stored for a long time in old oak. His wines are a reflection of the Monforte terroir and of the man who makes them. They take time to reveal themselves, but with patience you get a complex, unique and intense experience.
Flavio makes GREAT wine.
